We all know how important play is in our daily lives, but especially to our children’s lives. It’s how they learn to relate to others; connect, cooperate and socialize; and how to challenge themselves. At PDC, we offer children a fantasy playground with both imaginative play and gross-motor skills development. Make-believe is at the heart of play. Whether it’s amid the towering mountain, they must test their skill to reach the top, or with their crew on the high seas aboard the HMS Sir Francis Drake, or warming by the fire in the medieval kitchen.
While rejoicing in the delights of silliness, perfecting their coordination, or rehearsing the rules of society, children will enjoy all aspects of the play area. Within our 1300 square feet, custom-built playground, kids participate in dramatic play. Inside the castle, a medieval kitchen awaits with a stone fireplace and an iron chandelier with faux flame candles. The Waldorf-inspired play kitchen includes a stove and sink, cabinets, an ice box, and cradles for soft dolls made in the traditional style. In the puppet theatre, green dragons, kings, queens, knights, toads, and owls will come to life before their eyes. In front of the mirror, kids will delight in dress-up costumes as their favorite prince/princess, animal, or knight of the round table.
The climbing mountain is surrounded by murals with high peaks, mountain goats, and a waterfall that cascades to become a kids' slide down the mountain. Children can climb up the easy to grip climbing holds and alight for a moment at the top - and revel in their accomplishment.
Lastly, our flagship, the H.M.S. Sir Francis Drake has a 5-foot upper deck complete with rudder wheel, periscopes, and spyglass, and is reached by ladder or stairs. The lower cabin features large windows a small galley and seating with 'views astern'. Kids enter amidships and view the forward half as a wall mural with the crow's nest, sails, and the voyage's stores and supplies .
Our soft play area is perfect for little ones not ready for big kids’ play. They can tumble on the climbing waterfall or stack soft toys in the safe enclosed wobbler area. Of course, we also offer daily classes in our classroom or you can retreat there for a quite story time with books away from the action.
